We survived!

Well, we have survived the first 1 1/2 weeks of school.  So far, the boys love it.  They have made friends in their class.  They still play with one of their preschool friends but there are 2 other boys that they have started playing with at recess.  I was at the school twice last week. I helped out in their class one afternoon and had lunch with all 3 of them one day.  The boys are following directions, getting their work done and seem pretty happy.  They have each taken a turn sharing their stories for writers workshop and seem to really enjoy that.  Nathan has had a turn at being the helper already and was quite excited about being the "weather checker."  They each made a 100 on their first sight word test!  It is amazing how much they are already picking up in class.  Noah is counting to 100 now.  Nathan is not far behind.  They have already picked up rhyming words which is something I tried to work on this summer but it wasn't clicking.  We are really excited about their progress and how well they are handling the transition.  Now, if I can only get them to stop calling the school "Abby's school."

Abby, of course, is doing great.  She jumped right back into the swing of things. She is changing classes 3 times a day but seems to like it.  She is in class with most of her friends.  Of course, there has already been a little "girl" drama between 2 best friends.  Abby told me that she worked on it and helped the two friends make up.  Girls!!  She helps me out by walking the boys to their class.  One morning Nathan was a little teary because he was so tired.  The secretary saw him and was coming out to the lobby to walk him to class.  She said that she listened to Abby handle him and realized that Abby had it all under control and she was taking such good care of him.  She is such a little "mommy."  I can see her trying to guide them to the car every afternoon because of course everything in sight distracts them along the way.  She also had her first full week of ballet and did great.  I thought she would be exhausted but she seems to love it.

I am adjusting to having all 3 in school.  It still seems strange to pull up and drop off all 3 at once and see 3 kids running to my car every day.  The first few days I wasn't home so it really didn't hit me.  I have managed to go meet Bobby for lunch one day which was a nice treat.  For the rest of the time, I have stayed at home and worked.  I have been trying to get my house back in order from summer.  I finally got it cleaned and now am trying to stay on a cleaning schedule.  I also have several projects to do around the house.  I have managed to already cross a few things off  my list like organizing some closets and cabinets.  It's nice to get some things accomplished.  I am signing up to sub next month and will probably start volunteering in the classes when everyone gets settled.  I will admit that the days I don't leave the house seem very quiet and long.   I think I'll be ready to go back to work next year.
