Abby's 1st Grade Award's Day

Last week Abby had her Award's day and picnic to celebrate the end of the year.  The first grade gathered in the lunchroom to sing some songs and recite a few poems.  They did a really good job.  One of my favorite parts was when they sang "You are My Sunshine" and held up their little sunshines they decorated.  So sweet!  After this each class went to their classroom for their own individual awards program.  Mrs. Boyter did a really good job of making it a very personal little awards program.  She shared cute little stories or very special things about each of the students.  She announced the awards but concentrated more on sharing how special each child was to her.  Abby won a trophy for the most Reading Counts points in her classroom.  She finished the year with 82 points!  She also got a 1st grade certificate and a great behavior award.  She shared that Abby had come out of her shell and shyness more than any child in the class.  She said that she remembered meeting Abby at Open House and she was practically hiding behind me.  Now, Abby talks her ears off every day.  She couldn't have said anything to make me any happier.  Abby has come such a long way from that toddler that cried every time we dropped her off at church.  She loves every minute of school, ballet, church.  She has become such a little social butterfly that loves spending time with her friends.  We are thankful for another good year at school with sweet friends and a great teacher.  I can't believe I am going to have a second grader!!!  (sniff, sniff)
