What a Way To Start Our Thanksgiving Break

We were planning on sleeping in and then playing outside all day yesterday for the first day of Thanksgivng vacation.  Noah had other plans.  He climbed inside a bar stool yesterday morning and tipped it over.  He smashed his finger pretty badly.  I was convinced that he broke it.  As usual, he was quite the little trooper.  Very few tears!  So, off we head to Urgent Care.  He ended up with a fractured finger that should heal on its own in about 6 weeks.  We put a little finger protector on it and he's good to go.  He loves wearing that thing.  Here's a picture of the little guy with his first major injury:

I think he's pretty proud of his "booboo."

They will never pose for a picture when they are dressed  nice and I actually want them to! haha!

The Birthday Train!

We officially celebrated Noah and Nathan's 3rd birthday last weekend.  Since they loooove trains, we decided on a train theme.  Actually, Mommy decided this over a year ago when they discovered trains.  We rented a trackless train that took the kids (and adults) on rides through our neighborhood for about 2 hours.  We couldn't really let the kids ride on their own so all of the adults took turns riding with them.  Noah and Nathan had a great time celebrating with family and friends.  The look on their faces on that first "ride" was priceless.  Here are a few pictures of the big day:

One Smart Cookie!

Guess what this big kindergarten girl did this week?  She wrote her first sentences during journal time.   They do a Writer's Workshop in her class each day.  The students take turns sharing about trips, special events, etc.  Then the class draws pictures about it in their journal.  The goal is to progress into sentences and Abby did that this week.  She was so excited to tell me all about it as soon as she got in the car.  I am so proud of the progress she's making this year.  Most of all I am thrilled that she LOVES school.  It has been such a smooth transition to "big school" this year.  I am so thankful for a good school, great teacher and all of the sweet friends she has made.

Happy Birthday Noah and Nathan!!!

Dear Noah and Nathan,
I can't believe that today my little boys turn 3.  All morning I did what my mom always did and said "I remember what I was doing 3 years ago today".  I kept thinking back to your birthday and remembering  how nervous and excited that  Daddy and I were.  When I look at what tough, strong little boys you are I can't believe that these are the babies that we anticipated being so tiny.  We had sooooo many doctor's appointments for you guys because you were considered high risk.  They checked your growth almost weekly.  The doctors prepared us that you would be small and probably be sent to NICU.   I was mentally preparing to have to come home without you and visit you in the hospital.  I tried to prepare your Daddy.  He kept telling me that you wouldn't need all that and both of you would be over 5 lbs.   Noah, you were 5lbs7oz and Nathan, you were 6lbs13oz.  You were healthy and perfect.  Not only did you come straight to our room with us but you left the hospital with mommy in 4 days.  You are our little miracle boys.
You came home and were the most perfect babies.  Yes, you had to eat every 3 hours on the dot.  (no exceptions!!!) At night you would eat and go right back to sleep snuggled up together.  You rarely ever cried unless you were hungry.  I would have never survived taking care of 2 infants and a toddler if you you both had not been such good natured babies.
I can't believe 3 years have gone by.  It has flown by.  I won't say it hasn't been hard especially after you became mobile.  (Watch out and nail everything down!)  I have enjoyed every minute of the last 3 years watching you two grow and change.
Happy birthday my sweet baby boys!
    Love,
    Mommy

This is how you slept for the first 3 months.

Blowing out your candles tonight.

Nathaniel Robert

Dear Nathan,
You are the official "baby" of the family by 3 whole minutes.  We chose your name, Nathaniel, because it means "gift from God."  Daddy and I always wanted 3 children but only thought we would have two.  When we found out we were having twins we were so excited because our wish came true so your name seemed perfect.  Nathan, you are the typical youngest child.  For the most part, you are just such a happy go lucky little guy.  You love people and are very social yet you could lay on your tummy for hours and play with your choo-choos.
Nathan, you  have the kind of personality Mommy wishes she had.  You are such an outgoing little guy and get so excited at the smallest things.   On the first day of preschool this year you walked right in, started playing and never looked back.  I had to practically beg you for a hug and kiss.  You love new adventures and meeting new friends.  You love your preschool "classroom" (as you call it), your teachers and your friends.  Your teachers have said that your are the most eager student in class.  You always want to try everything first and you get so excited about everything they do.  You never meet a stranger.  You blow kisses and talk to all of the cashiers at the stores.   You also seem to be a little bit of a ladies man already.  You are such a little flirt.
It doesn't surprise Mommy that you have this personality.  You were a people person from day one. You were my baby that wanted to be held and cuddled the most.  You have always been mommy's little cuddle bug.  Even in the womb, you were trying to snuggle with Noah.  You were the most energetic in mommy's tummy and I think you were just trying to stay close to your brother.  Nathan, you are a mommy's boy.  You love your daddy and love to play with him and meet him at the door every day but when you are sad or sick you need your mommy and I love that.
Nathan, you have always been bigger than your brother by a few lbs and a few inches.  You are just a solid, stocky little guy.   It amazes me because you are such a rough and tough boy.  Daddy and I always say that we can really see you playing football one day.  (You have also developed a new habit of growling at everyone which is pretty funny.)  As rough and tough as you are you have such a sensitive heart.  When you and Noah or Abby get into a fight or argument we always ask you all to hug and say you're sorry.  You always rush to say it first even if you are not at fault.  Many times Noah and Abby have the disagreement but you apologize for them.  We always laugh that you will tackle someone playing football one day and then run back to help them up and apologize.  If you ever see mommy looking unhappy (or probably just tired ) you always ask, "What's matter Mommy?" or "You happy Mommy?".  You are just such an affectionate, sweet boy.
However, as sweet and calm as you can be you also have quite the temper.  You probably have the worst temper of the 3 of you.  For months Noah and Abby would take toys from you and you would just cry.  We actually encouraged you to fight back a little.  It didn't take long for you to get tired of this.  Let's just say that you don't let them take things from you anymore.
You are such a smart little guy.  You can count ou loud to 14 and you can even count objects that high.  You have an amazing ability to remember the words of songs.  You love to sing and pick up the words quickly.  You get this from Daddy.  You love for Mommy to sit and read to you (especially Thomas books).
Your absolute favorite thing in the world right now is trains.  You love to watch Thomas the Train.  Your other favorite show is Roary the Racing car.  Your favorite color (like Mommy's) is red.  You are a pretty picky eater but love, love, love your bread!
Nathan, I love spending every day with you.  You are just such a sweet, happy little boy.  Mommy just can't get enough of that huge smile, those hugs and your "wuv yous."
 Love,
Mommy

Noah Austin

The boys will turn 3 next week so I thought I would write a letter to each of  them individually before their birthday.  I am going to start with Noah because he is the oldest.

Dear Noah,
Noah, you are our Baby A and the oldest by a whole 3 minutes. You have always been about 1-2 lbs smaller than Nathan but you are a scrappy little guy.   From day 1 your little personality was there.  Many people will  tell you that their newborns just eat and sleep and really haven't developed a personality.  Not you my little man.  You have been curious since the day you were born.  I would call you my little scientist at just a few days old. You were constantly looking and studying things so intently.  I could just see the little wheels in your brain going trying to figure out how things work.  Watching you at (almost) 3 I realize I was right.  You are into everything possible.  You are constantly investigating or climbing or trying new things.  You have NO fear.  (except for a little fear of heights)  You can lock and unlock every door in our house.  You can turn on all of the water faucets and even the shower.  You have had several showers fully clothed.  I caught you standing on the kitchen table many times twirling the chandelier  and singing, "Round and round, round and round."  You climb out of your bed on a daily basis.  You have learned the trick is not to wake up your brother and mommy doesn't get too upset.  You love any thing with a motor.  Tractors, trucks, motorcycles, boats, lawnmowers, etc.  You love it all and YOU want to drive.  One day you cried for about 15 minutes in the car because you didn't understand why you couldn't drive.
Noah, you are so much like your daddy.  You have always been a little bit of a Daddy's boy.  You are quiet when you walk into a new situation and it takes you a few minutes to warm up. Once you get comfortable you are such a funny and sweet little guy.   You were a tiny bit hesitant on the first day of preschool this year.  After one day you loved it.  You love your friends, your teacher and your "classroom" as you and your brother call school.  You also have your daddy's stubborness.  I just try to remember that strong willed children will be leaders not followers. :) You do have a temper and can pitch some good ones these days.  I just usually walk away and let you get it all out.  You usually come to find me and tell me that you are done crying now.
Singing is something you have grown to love this year at school.  At the beginning of the year we couldn't get you to sing anything at home.  Now your music teacher says that you are the loudest singer and probably most enthusiastic in the class.  You sing all the time at home.  You also love Daddy's "cool" guitar as you call it.  Hopefully, Santa will bring you your own for Christmas.
Noah, you keep Mommy on her toes 24 hours a day.  I never know what you will try next.  I tell Daddy that I just can't keep up with that little inquisitive mind of yours.  You are just the most mischievious little boy ever.  When you think Mommy's not happy you turn on the cuteness and charm.  You smile that little grin of yours and it is so hard not to laugh. ( I think Daddy probably did the same thing to Nana when he was little.)  I've always said that cute will take you a long way in life so you should be fine. :)
As busy as you are you always have time for hugs and kisses.  As a baby you didn't seem to want to be held as much as Nathan. Now, you love to crawl up in our lap and cuddle.  Your "lu you" (love you) is the sweetest thing ever.  Noah, I hope your little personality never changes.  Even though you wear me out I love seeing things through your eyes every day.  Every day is another adventure.

Happy (almost) Birthday Noah!
Love,
Mommy
